The St. Helene home is one part of NPH Haiti consisting of 19 houses for 435 children. Part of taking care of the children means providing them with a good meal three times a day. All the food for the kids and their caregivers is prepared in the main kitchen and served hot in their own homes. In the morning before going to school, our children are given breakfast, such as porridge, oatmeal, bread, cereal and milk, or spaghetti.
The St. Helen School educates 528 community students from the surrounding area. Every student who attends our school gets a plate with some combination of chicken, beef, rice, beans, ble (grits like meal), sauce, fruits, and vegetables.
Dinner typically consists of some porridge, spaghetti, potatoes, bread and peanut butter, or oatmeal. Because the food is prepared in our own kitchen, if a child has special dietary needs, we can accommodate it.
St. Helene also has its own bakery and some farm animals which are used to help lower food costs.
Donors have the unique opportunity to directly help our kids as they continue to develop under the care of NPH. The support of donors allows us to provide a variety of healthy meals to our kids.
