Since the founding of NPH in 1954, our mission has been to transform the lives of abandoned and disadvantaged children. Principally, we accomplish that transformation by giving the children we serve a safe, healthy and loving home. In our residential homes, the children are given the opportunity to have what far too many children in the countries where we operate are not allowed to have: a childhood.
NPH ensures paths to vocational career training and university studies, including opportunities for advanced leadership and formation training. These opportunities serve to help break the cycle of poverty that has plagued the families of children for generations.
NPH empowers each student with respect, spiritual guidance, and opportunities to serve in their communities. Youth development programs and life planning assist with creating goals and NPH’s mentoring helps each individual reach his/her full potential.
Our goal is to prepare NPH children to lead by example in their local communities. We develop these abilities through a variety of educational opportunities, including youth development groups, conferences, and our year of service program. These programs promote self-confidence, leadership development and open doors so that our youth are empowered to pursue their career interests.
All NPH homes have specific youth groups or programs that provide opportunities for our children and youth to develop their skills and grow. These groups vary from pastoral youth groups, sports teams, choirs and orchestras, theater and dance groups to youth groups where they can develop their capacities, learn about service leadership, and provide service to the home and the community.
At NPH, we are empowering the next generation of women through 'Chicas Poderosas' (Powerful Girls). This gender equality program prepares girls to achieve sustainable life goals through education, activities and community service on their way to realizing their full potential.
Chicas Poderosas is a program that provides a safe space for our growing and maturing young women to discuss their experiences, to educate themselves on issues they face and will face in life, and to encourage them to find strength, confidence, and purpose within themselves. For our girls to have greater self-esteem and confidence, make appropriate decisions regarding their relationships and life, actively educate themselves and realize their full potential. It is a priority to us that they learn to think critically about the factors that shape their perspectives about women as well as their individual identities as women.
Some homes have already expanded their gender focused programs for girls and young women to be more inclusive and empower both genders.
We strive to have spiritual and youth development programs in all of our homes. The aim of the youth groups is to create a space where youth and young adults can express themselves, experience team work, develop their skills, learn service leadership, learn more about the history and philosophy of NPH, and put this knowledge into practice both within NPH and outside in the community.
Art groups like choirs and orchestras, theater and dance groups, courses for making handicrafts and all types of sports groups complete the holistic approach of the NPH philosophy and education.
